Overview

The P-1 visa category allows international athletes, athletic teams, and internationally recognized entertainment groups to enter the U.S. to perform, compete, or participate in events, tours, or sports leagues. It accommodates foreign talent in organized athletics and cultural entertainment industries.

Requirements

  1. P-1A — individual athletes

    Individual athletes must demonstrate international recognition and a record of sustained achievement in their sport, supported by official rankings, national team experience, or major professional league participation.

  2. P-1B — teams and groups

    Athletic teams or entertainment groups must be internationally recognized as outstanding in their discipline for a sustained period, and at least 75 percent of group members must have been associated with the group for at least one year.

  3. Sponsor, itinerary and consultation

    All filings require a U.S. employer, sponsor, or agent, an itinerary of events, and a formal consultation letter from an appropriate labor organization.
